Level Concrete Floor Before Laminate

I began laying and now i ran into an area at the base of my staircase that dips in the middle.

Leveling concrete basement floor before laying laminate. Fill any low spots with a cementitious leveling compound following the manufacturer s directions and allow it to dry before proceeding. We ve been told that laminate flooring requires the floor to be level but that vinyl flooring is more forgiving. Then place the pad and get ready to install your laminate flooring.

Another option is use ceramic tile although i think we should still attempt to level it for that as well but i just don t want ceramic tile too hard too cold don t want to spend for radiant heat and i hate hate to see dirtly grout lines. Our concrete floor in our kitchen has a bit of a hump in it and we ll need to attempt to level it before installing laminate plank flooring. Check the specifications on the flooring you ve selected for moisture tolerance. Then vacuum the floor with a wet dry vac or sweep it with a broom.

The floor is not level or square built in the 70 s. The maximum laminate flooring level tolerance on a subfloor is 3 16 of an inch over a 10 foot span. After you have completed the project you have to remove the spacers and clean the floor with a vacuum. Apply floor leveling compound to any low areas or dips using a trowel.

The floor may roll a marble and looks to slope now that the carpet has been removed. If you re on a concrete subfloor you will need to lay down a moisture barrier before applying the pad. Make a final check with the level to be sure all the high and low spots are gone. Check the humidity level of basement slab concrete.

Lay laminate flooring on the rest of the concrete floor in the same manner described above. Once the concrete has had time to cure check humidity with a moisture meter and if it is 4 5 or higher the slab might be unsuitable for laminate even with a vapor barrier. I eyeballed mistake the concrete after tearing up carpet to see if it was level for laying laminate. Before you install file flooring follow the directions above for fixing high spots and low spots in a wood or concrete subfloor.

Check your wood flooring manufacturer s recommendations and sand any high spots with a concrete grinder. Wait for the compound to dry prior to laminate installation. After installing the moisture barrier select the thickest pad you can get to help level out the floor even more. If you have any hills or valleys that are more than that then you have an uneven subfloor that needs to be corrected.

The plywood subfloor is in good condition. How forgiving is vinyl in regard to an unlevel subfloor. Typically the floor must be level and uniform within 3 16 inch every 10 feet. Once you ve leveled your floor you can install the laminate pad.
